How to use
Coreg, being known as an alpha- and nonselective beta-blocker treats high blood pressure and heart failures. It is also used after a heart attack to improve your survival. Besides this, It may be used to treat other cases as determined by your doctor.
Notice before using
Check if you are taking amiodarone, barbiturates, birth control pills, cimetidine, cyclosporine, decongestants, disopyramide, flecainide, hydralazine, indomethacin, insulin, mefloquine, nateglinide, phenothiazines, prazosin, quinidine, repaglinide, rifampin, verapamil, medicines for asthma, medicines for diabetes, or medicines for thyroid conditions because an additional monitoring of the dose you take and condition may be needed.
Take care to inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including low heart rate, certain lung problems (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), some certain types uncontrolled congestive heart failure, liver problems, allergies, diabetes, breast-feeding or pregnancy. Also do not start or stop any medicine without approval of your doctor or pharmacist.
In case you have a history of extremely low heart rate - use of Coreg is not recommended. It also concerns heart block, shock caused by heart failure, serious liver disease, asthma. Ask your doctor or pharmacist any questions you have or concerns about taking Coreg.
How to take. Directions
Directions for using Coreg provided by your doctor must be followed. Take Coreg with food. Store Coreg at room temperature below 86 degrees f (30 degrees c), not under sunlight, away from heat, moisture. Take Coreg regularly to receive the most benefit from the medicine. Just take Coreg at the same time(s) each day - it will help you to remember.
Even if you feel well - continue to take Coreg. Missing doses is not desirable. In case you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose and return to your regular dosing schedule if it is almost time for your next dose. Avoid taking 2 doses at once.
Cautions
Do not take Coreg in case you have had an allergic reaction to it or you are allergic to any ingredient in this product. Always check with your doctor to stop taking Coreg. When the medicine is suddenly stopped some conditions may become worse. To avoid side effects, your dose may need to be slowly lowered.
While you are taking Coreg keep all doctor and laboratory appointments. Before seeing your dentist or having any medical treatments, emergency care, or surgery, inform the doctor or dentist that you are using Coreg. Coreg may cause some dizziness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or doing anything else that could be dangerous until you know your reactions to Coreg.
Always check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any new medicine, either prescription or over-the-counter. It also concerns any medicines used to treat colds or congestion. In case your doctor told you to check your blood pressure and heart rate regularly - do so. If you are unsure how to accurately measure your heart rate or blood pressure - ask your doctor for help.
For women: discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of using Coreg during pregnancy if you are planning to become pregnant. It is unknown if Coreg is excreted in breast milk. Avoid breast-feeding while taking Coreg. In case you have diabetes, Coreg may affect your blood sugar. If so - check blood glucose levels closely and also ask your doctor before adjusting the dose of your diabetes medicine.
Possible side effects
Possible side effects, that may occur: slow heartbeat, diarrhea, some dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness or trouble sleeping, weakness or unusual tiredness, dry eyes (especially concerns those who wear contact lenses), or changes in vision. If it continues or is bothersome, inform your doctor.
See your doctor immediately if you experience very slow heartbeat, fainting, severe some dizziness, unusual bleeding or bruising, increased urination, increased thirst, or bluish discoloration of feet or hands.
Inform your doctor immediately in case you experience symptoms of worsening heart failure such as short breathing, swelling, or unusual weight gain, cough.
Allergic reactions to Coreg is unlikely, but if it occurs - seek immediate medical attention. There are possible symptoms of an allergic reaction which include swelling, some dizziness, rash, itching, or trouble breathing. Should you notice other effects not listed above, inform your doctor, pharmacist or nurse.
In case you took too much
If you suspect overdose, you must contact your local poison control center or emergency room. Symptoms of overdose: severe some dizziness, fainting, very slow heart rate, weakness, difficult or slowed breathing.
Additional information
Avoid sharing Coreg with others if it was not prescribed for them. Do not use Coreg for other health conditions.
Keep Coreg out of the reach of children. Obtain refills before your supply runs out, if using Coreg for an extended period of time,.
Drug interactions
Drug interactions can cause an unwanted side effects, even prevent a medicine from doing its job. Some drugs or some medical conditions may interact with Coreg. Let know your pharmacist or doctor of all prescription and check medicines that you are taking.
